We are two moms that care. We saw a flaw in the beauty industry. Before we made Kiwi and Coral our daughters were so interested in buying and using skincare that was “trendy”. The problem with “trendy” is that it doesn’t always mean appropriate. Many of these brands advertising to our kids are not for their delicate, growing skin. This leads to barrier damage. The skin barrier is the body’s first line of defense against bacteria and any ickys. When we damage it with skincare that isn’t appropriate we open ourselves to bigger issues. As moms that was a big fear. We watched as our teen daughters spent our money on products that frankly were actually making them break out and making their skin worse.
Teens have enough that they have to deal with! Breakouts and damaged skin barrier shouldn’t be one of them. We as parents are helping to build their futures and skin damage cannot be a part of that. Protecting them means not letting them wreck their skin and helping them maintain healthy skin and habits into adulthood.
Sure, there are options out there that are gentle (enough)but most still have artificial fragrances, testing on animals, or hormone disruptors. Major brands may seem fine, but we wanted something better. We wanted to take away one worry from parents and also make a product that their kids want to use. We have thoughtfully chosen our ingredients based on all our cares and worries as parents. Being vegan, cruelty-free, and super clean matters to us!
“Let’s create this ourselves” Carrie and I said to each other. After lots and lots of research and trial and error we got it! We plunged head first into a world that we thought we knew well. Our backrounds as cosmetologists and Carries experience in healthcare and masters in public health was super helpful. Little did we know there is much more than just knowing what we want and what we don’t want. We learned so much about ingredient sourcing, packaging, marketing, branding, and manufacturing. After countless questions, months and months of researching, and partnering with experts committed to quality and safety we are here. What started as a conversation over wine and worries about our daughters became Kiwi and Coral.
